Clif Bar - Snowboard UK review FEB 2007

CLIF BAR
Yeah I know we usually cram any old crap into our pockets for that mid-morning fix on the mountain. Typically this means munching down on some rubbish, sugary nonsense the local French/Austrian/Yank (delete as applicable) supermarket sells as snack food, buzzing for about ten minutes then falling into a post sugar lull while your fillings fall out. “So, what’s the alternative?” I hear you cry, agitated and eager to learn more from the fountain of knowledge. Well, help is at hand and it comes in the form of the Clif Bar.
Not only is this little number designed to keep your energy topped up in the manner in which spending all day on a snowy mountain demands, but it is made from only wholesome, natural ingredients. Started in 1992 by bike-mad Gary Erickson (and not someone called Clif), the company set out to make truly edible energy bars that respected the mouth that was going to eat it as much as the environment. 14 years on, Gary still comes up with the recipes using 70% organic ingredients. Today perhaps the most edible energy bar on the planet is back in the UK distributed by 2Pure in Scotland and while already selling in bike shops, should be available at leading snowboard shops by the time you read this. If it isn’t then ask for it! Stock up before heading out to the mountains. You won’t put a healthier thing in your mouth, at least not half way down a mountain you won’t. Available in Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal & Raisin, and Carrot Cake flavours.
