At first we wondered what Crank Brothers were on when we saw these wheels. The bearings are due a replacement after a full year bullying on our long-termers but otherwise we're a lot less sceptical. The ribbed rims with paired spokes in barrels haven't given us any trouble - we've never even had to true them. The solid bed rim makes them tubeless compatible, they're stiffer than wire spoke wheels the same weight and the front is 15mm compatible. The super fast engagement from the six-pawl freehub feels fantastic every time you launch out of a corner, lunge at a step up or kick the power back in too. But it ought to at this price.

Still crazy money but this unique design has proved genuinely durable, stiff and outstandingly responsive.
